Blog Assignment #3

Artist 1
William Franklin Draper

Artist #2
Draper is an American Artist who served in the Navy as a lieutenant commander during WWII. I choose this artist as my big idea because the images he creates represent patriotism, freedom and the American way. The Main idea of my midterm project conflict. Not so much the conflict of  being engaged in a War but the conflict within oneself during. Draper used his experiences to help motivate him to create exquisite American art.

My second artist is a combination of 2 photographers the first is Joseph John Rosenthal an American photographer who captured one of the most important images in American history the raising of the flag by marines after the battle of Iwo Jima. He won a Pulitzer prize for the picture that captivates all who see it. Thomas E. Franklin who is responsible for and image seen around the world after the devastating attacks on 9/11. He captured an image of three firefighters raising an American flag from the destruction of the two world trade centers. This picture symbolized the patriotism of Americans and was one of the pictures I actually used in my project.  Both of these artist represent the conflict within one self during times of peril and the American way of emerging from events like World War II and 9/11 united and unified. The Idea for my midterm project comes from our reaction during times of conflict and how that symbolizes the American way.

HyperArt-blog 1

Jochen Brennecke- hyperart.com

I picked this artist because I really liked the way she incorporated digital images into a scene just like we attempted in class. Its not the kind of art that you would see on a daily basis and its connotations and denotations are a little more difficult to figure out. The idea that I took away from these was each image has two separate meanings. The real image, the background is the physical existence of the image, its gives it perspective and gives you the idea that it is reality. Hence the wall-mart in the background and the sun setting over the mountains, both are images that you would see on a daily basis. The part to the image is imagination and creativity. Its almost like the little kid in us is coming out with the images and the colors. It gives you perspective
